The search is on to find the owner of a dog found near death, wandering around a trailer park in Attleboro.

The Boxer, now named Hope, was covered in sores and extremely skinny and malnouraished.

“Her pads are all sore… urine burns on them. She has calluses on her elbows, on her paws, probably from laying on cement. Never being socialized, always in a crate,” said Pam Lusiak of the Central Avenue Vet Clinic.

Hope was found wandering around the Oak Hill Trailer Park in Attleboro on Monday wearing a worn-down collar with a leash attached to it.

“Makes you wonder, was she dumped?  Did she pull away from someone?” These are questions Attleboro‘s Animal Control Officer, Carolyn Eaton, wants answered. “It’s very disheartening and sad that someone could treat the dog like this,” she said.

Hope is believed to be five or six years old and weighs just 38 pounds—about 22 pounds less than she should. She had a microchip that traces back to a kennel in South Carolina but it is no longer in business.

Hope has not been wandering the streets long, as her overgrown nails indicated. Her joints are callused from laying on hard surfaces and she was covered in filth. Beyond her poor health, all Hope really wants is attention.

“Boxers love people, I think she’s just happy she’s here and someone loves her,” explained Pam.

An investigation is now underway to find more about Hope’s past. But until then, she’ll recuperate at a vet hospital in Seekonk with the “hope” of finding a new home.

For Carolyn, Hope’s story is a personal one. “They are not just a number to us, everyone on these animals we care for.”

Anyone who recognizes Hope is asked to contact Animal Control at (508) 761-5617.
