Neighbors shocked over fire hydrant stolen from street in Woonsocket
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A puzzling sight on Cranston Street in Woonsocket Wednesday, where you’d normally see a fire hydrant along the sidewalk is now replaced with a traffic cone.
The Woonsocket Water Division said Tuesday that fire hydrant was stolen. It was stolen from Cranston Street near Head Start Daycare.
It wasn’t immediately known when it was stolen.
Dennis Lecleir, a resident who lives on Cranston Street, across from the hydrant said he didn’t see or hear anything.
“Really? You gotta be kidding me,” Dennis Lecleir said. “It happened quickly. It must have happened in the middle of the night.”
Those living on Cranston Street were shocked someone would steal a fire hydrant, and left some worried about if they’ll have any water issues until the hydrant is replaced.
“Why would you steal it? What made you do that?” asked Dana Kirchman.
Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt also said the city already has an order placed for the hydrant to be replaced.
