NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley reveal affordable units for lottery in East Providence
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials have announced a lottery for 13 work force homes located in East Providence.
The homes, located at Ivy Street and Taunton Avenue, will be mixed use with shops located on the first floor, with a mix of two and three bedroom unit apartments.
Officials said that an applicant who applies for the unit needs to fall between 60 and 100 percent of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 2024 median income.
For a family of four, applicants must be making between $67,000 and $112,000 to apply for a unit at Ivy Place.
“This is a wonderful, it’s a wonderful place. And its just going to bring some vibrancy to a parcel that was vacant for decades, doing nothing for decades,” said East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva. “Generating no revenue and generating no economic impact because there was nobody living in it. Now you’re going to have 13 new families coming into the area that are going to support local businesses.”
“After COVID the market is, it’s difficult so even working force cant afford these homes if they were market rates,” said Bill Lewis, Co-Director of Real Estate at Blackstone Valley.
So to have – the idea that you’re going to have beautiful families coming in, living in these properties, giving the economic development to the city and ultimately to other families, I think it’s a blessing.”
