New Bedford closes beaches to swimming due to heavy rainfall

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The City of New Bedford has closed all recreational beach areas for swimming on Sunday, June 23 due to heavy rainfall.

A press release said that the closure is due to possible combined sewer overflow discharge.

Residents can still visit beaches but cannot enter the water.

“The beaches will reopen to swimming pending the results of water sampling at city beaches later Sunday,” the city said. “A notification will be issued when the beaches are reopened to swimming.”

More information of water testing can be found here.
