New Bedford driver charged for crash that killed Endicott College police sergeant

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — The Essex District Attorney’s Office announced a New Bedford man was charged in connection with the car crash that killed Endicott College Police Sgt. Jeremy Cole.
Keoma Duarte, 40, was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor and operating recklessly, manslaughter, and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, as well as faces civil motor vehicle violations for driving in the wrong direction on a state highway, speeding, and marked lanes violation.
On Nov. 27, Duarte was allegedly traveling southbound in the northbound lane on Interstate 95 in Newbury when he collided with Cole’s vehicle.
According to officials, Cole was pronounced dead at the scene, and Duarte was airlifted by Medflight to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.
Duarte is expected to be arraigned in Newburyport District Court through Zoom on Tuesday.
