NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford gang member was convicted this week of illegal gun charges and sentenced to four-and-a-half to six-and-a-half years in prison.

Bruno Lopes, 26, was serving time with two months to serve for a 2019 non-fatal shooting at Temple landing in New Bedford.

The newer incident occurred in July of 2020 when shots were fired into a house on Margin Street in New Bedford.

This was a retrial that was based on a new Supreme Judicial Court ruling in the case of Commonwealth Vs. Guardado.

“The defendant is a gang involved person and a very dangerous person who does not belong on the streets of New Bedford. He was previously convicted of a shooting in New Bedford and was unfortunately released by the court when he committed this new offense.” said Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.
