NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Denzel Washington’s movie "The Equalizer 2" is out this weekend, he is obviously the star but there’s also a local connection to look for in the action film. A talented little girl from New Bedford is making her debut and as you’re about to see, it won’t be the last time we’ll see her on screen.
We should all remember the name Marley Dauphin. She can sing, dance and act and did we mention she’s only 9!
It’s how any kid would spend a summer day. Riding bikes with friends and then a fun night out.
"We’re going to Cheesecake Factory and then straight to the movies," says Marley Dauphin of New Bedford.
The only difference here, 9 year old Marley Dauphin will see herself on the silver screen.
"I don’t really know because I haven’t seen myself in a movie before! It’s like a really big opportunity," she says.
She has a small role in "The Equalizer 2" starring Denzel Washington.
"It was cool because when Denzel Washington came in we had our own handshake," she says.
She’s definitely a performer and has been her entire life.
"When she was about 6 months old she started humming twinkle twinkle to me. Then at 9 months old she just started talking and it just took off from there," says Ana Dias, her mom.
It’s not just acting she loves, she’s equally passionate about singing.
"I want to be successful with both of them, both singing and acting," says Dauphin.
This may be her first movie role but she’s been in commercials and has meetings set up with Disney and Nickelodeon.
"Her confidence is through the roof so that definitely helps," says Dias.
Her future is definitely bright but it doesn’t seem she’ll forget her New Bedford roots.
"All of them going to support me and stuff, I’m just really happy that they get to be here and watch the movie," says Dauphin.
She has about 90 friends and family members and even some teachers from Pulaski Elementary School going to see the movie with her in Braintree Friday night.
