New Bedford man accused of shooting at passing car in broad daylight

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man is accused of shooting at a car in broad daylight last week.
Police said Thursday that officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near the Ben Rose housing development.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. last Wednesday.
Officers saw a damaged car and bullet casings on the ground.
A detective assigned to the investigation found that 20-year-old Jonathan Ovalle fired two rounds at a passing car. No one in the car was hurt.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Ovalle and took him into custody on Tuesday.
He was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, destruction of property, and assault by means of a firearm.
Ovalle was being held without bail at the Bristol County House of Corrections.
