New Bedford man accused of threatening group with stolen gun

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man was arrested last month after allegedly threatening a crowd with a stolen gun.
Police said the disturbance started at about 6 a.m. on June 2 when 28-year-old Iussufi Vieira-Jau got into an argument with a group of people on Beetle Street. Vieira-Jau is accused of getting a gun from his vehicle and loading it up.
The group separated themselves and Vieira-Jau drove off.
Witnesses told police he came back 10 to 15 minutes later and put his vehicle in park.
That’s when police were called for the threatening message.
Police arrested Vieira-Jau and released a passenger, who witnesses said did not play a part in the disturbance.
Vieira-Jau was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, threats to commit a crime, carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition with no license, and receiving stolen property.
