New Bedford man arrested on cocaine, fentanyl-trafficking charges

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford resident was arrested Wednesday in Fairhaven on charges including cocaine and fentanyl trafficking, according to the Fairhaven Police Department.

Calixto Smith, 28, is charged with:

  • Trafficking in 200 grams or more of cocaine
  • Trafficking in 10 grams or more of fentanyl
  • Distribution of a class B drug
  • Conspiracy to violate the drug laws

Fairhaven detectives and DEA personnel, along with New Bedford police personnel, executed several search warrants Wednesday in the case.

These searches were the culmination of a long investigation into drug-related activity allegedly involving Smith, according to Fairhaven police.

Police said that during the operation, law enforcement seized approximately 1.7 kilograms of cocaine, 11 grams of fentanyl, 265 suspected pressed fentanyl pills and $11,000 in cash.

Smith was taken into custody during the execution of the warrants.
