Police have arrested a New Bedford man after a drug raid of his home, where officers found two dogs being kept in unhealthy conditions.

Detectives raided the North Front Street home of 24-year-old Ramon Sanchez for drugs on Monday night when they discovered two pit bulls kept in a third-floor rear hallway.

According to police, there were feces all over the stairs of the apartment. Animal control officers were called to the scene and described the living conditions for the dogs as "deplorable."

Four ounces of marijuana and $370 in cash were seized from the home.

Sanchez is charged with animal cruelty, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
