New Bedford man charged with possession of illegal firearm

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police detectives arrested a city resident allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm Friday.

According to the New Bedford Police Department, detectives stopped a vehicle on Belleville Avenue and conducted a search of the car.

Detectives recovered a 9mm handgun with seven rounds of ammunition from behind a center display screen on the dashboard.

Cristhian Joel Gonzalez, 21, of New Bedford, was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
