New Bedford man sentenced for aggravated rape of a child

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man was sentenced on July 17 after he was convicted of the aggravated rape of a child, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn.

34-year-old Marc Ribeiro was sentenced to 18 to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of probation, after he was found guilty of two counts of aggravated rape of a child with a five year age difference, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and assault to rape.

Between July of 2015 and July of 2019, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Ribeiro “sexually assaulted and raped the victim who was a child at the time” on multiple occasions.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office added that Ribeiro “had access to [the victim] through a dating relationship.”

In 2023, the victim was informed on child abuse in health class, and shared with her health teacher the abuse she suffered.

Ribeiro was convicted and sentenced on July 17, 2025.

“The defendant took advantage of his access to this young victim and repeatedly raped and abused her between the ages of five and seven.  This conduct committed against a very young and innocent victim is repulsive and warrants a lengthy prison sentence.  I commend the victim for her perseverance during this very difficult ordeal,” District Attorney Tom Quinn said.
