New Bedford man sentenced to 9 years for bank robbery

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The United State District Attorney’s Office District of Massachusetts said that a New Bedford man was sentenced for the July 2021 robbery of a Bristol County Savings Bank branch in Dartmouth.
David Frates was arrested two days after the robbery and remained in custody, pleading guilty in March 2022.
The district attorney’s office said that the 44-year-old entered the bank and demanded $20,000 from the teller.
At the time of the robbery he was on supervised release for a 2015 bank robbery which he was also found guilty of.
Frates was sentenced to serve 110 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and to pay restitution of $20,000 to the bank.
