NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that they’ve sentenced an armed robber to three to five years in state prison.

Joshua Bishop pleaded guilty to armed robbery in Fall River Superior Court.

Bishop robbed a Shop Smart on March 29, 2019.

According to the police report, he entered the store at around 1:30 wearing a red and blue face covering over his face and nose. He then approached the cashier, threatened him with a knife, and demanded cash.

The cashier recognized the robber as he used to frequently shop at the store.

Bishop fled the store after stealing around $300 in cash.

Police say that when they arrived on the scene they showed a photo of Bishop to the cashier and he confirmed his identity.

Bishop was arrested in October of 2019.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn discussed Bishop’s sentence, “The defendant committed a very serious crime against a innocent person just trying to make a living. The sentence holds him accountable.”
