NEW BEDFORD, R.I. (WLNE) – Five Massachusetts nursing homes struggling to stay open were placed into a temporary receivership Monday.
Attorney General Maura Healey’s office is pushing for that scenario in order to protect more than 200 elderly residents who are being forced to leave the facilities.
The nursing homes have been placed into receivership after being ordered shut by the Department of Public Health last week.
Many of the caretakers we spoke to say the move isn’t enough to fix this mess.
The five nursing homes located in Dighton, Fall River, and New Bedford were owned and operated by New Jersey based Skyline Health which voluntarily surrendered its licenses for the facilities last week after it was revealed employees and bills were left unpaid.
Massachusetts DPH ordered all facilities closed last week giving some residents as little as 8 days to leave.
Monday a judge ordered that KCP advisory group from Billerica be the temporary receiver of the facilities.
That makes them responsible for managing and closing the facilities within 60 days something that isn’t sitting well with family of residents.
Some residents are now fighting back saying they refuse to leave at all.
