New Bedford PD says woman arrested after she tried to drive vehicle through federal building, attempted arson
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police said officers arrested a woman after she allegedly attempted to drive her vehicle through a federal building on Monday.
26-year-old Jennifer Judith Padilla faces multiple charges, including assault by means of a dangerous weapon, destruction of property, and attempted arson.
Around 11:15 a.m., officers responded to the Hastings Keith Federal Building for reports of a woman who attempted to drive through the front doors.
Upon arrival, police discovered Padilla had allegedly attempted to enter the federal building with an American flag and container of gasoline. Police allege Padilla had poured the gasoline on the flag and attempted to light it on fire, but was stopped by security officers.
New Bedford police said Padilla then got inside her vehicle and allegedly tried to drive it through the front entrance of the federal building, hitting one security officer.
Officials said the security officer was not injured, and the building sustained minor damage.
