New Bedford police arrest 2 men for breaking into cars
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said it arrested two men in two separate incidents of breaking into cars.
32-year-old Javier Mendez-Colon was charged with breaking into a motor vehicle at night with the intent to commit a felony.
55-year-old Walter Brewster was charged with two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle to commit a felony and resisting arrest.
Mendez-Colon was arrested after detectives allegedly observed him entering and exiting a car and having items from the car, which he did not own, on his person.
Brewster was arrested after allegedly breaking into multiple vehicles in the area of Watson Street, Duke Street, and Willow Street.
He attempted to flee from police but was apprehended, and police said he had items from multiple vehicles on him.
Police added that Brewster had “an extensive criminal history with numerous convictions for offenses such as assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny, possession of burglarious tools, and 4 previous cases of breaking and entering.”
