New Bedford police arrest juvenile on gun charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police arrested a juvenile on gun charges on Tuesday.
Police said that they executed a search warrant for an apartment in the “Shawmut Village” housing development.
Officers stopped a juvenile, who was the target of the investigation, outside of the apartment and searched him. They found a pistol in his waistband, loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
Detectives searched the apartment and found an assault rifle that was loaded with 22 rounds of ammunition. There was also an additional 43 rounds of assault riffle ammunition, and a combined total of 139 rounds of pistol ammunition.
Both of the guns had the serial numbers scratched.
Police arrested the juvenile on the following charges:
- Carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition without a license
- Possession of a high capacity feeding device
- Improper storage
The department has now seized a total of nine guns so far this month.
