New Bedford police arrest man for robbing Uber driver outside home
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said it arrested a man who allegedly robbed an Uber driver outside his house at knifepoint.
22-year-old Isaiah Poindexter was charged with committing an armed robbery while masked. Poindexter was already on court-ordered GPS tracking due to “numerous” open charges for vandalism.
Police responded to the area of North Street and Cedar Street on Feb. 19 for report of an armed robbery.
The Uber driver told police that he was waiting for his rider when a masked man approached him, pointed a knife at him, and demanded his belongings.
The man then fled the scene on foot.
Officers were able to retrieve surveillance footage that allegedly showed Poindexter’s face, and his GPS tracker also allegedly put him at the scene at the time of the robbery.
Police placed Poindexter under arrest at his residence.
Poindexter was received the vandalism charges in the summer of 2023 for allegedly spray painting “Dex” and other writing around the city, including on police cruisers.
