NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said a man was arrested after drugs and a loaded gun were allegedly found in his vehicle on Sept. 29.

27-year-old Igor Lima was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, OUI liquor, and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.

Around 5 a.m., police responded to Tarklin Hill Road and Lawrence Street to conduct a welfare check after receiving reports of a vehicle stopped in the road with a person slumped over inside the vehicle.

When officers arrived, police observed that the vehicle was running with the gear shift in drive.

Police said the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Lima, had awaked by their arrival, and that officers allegedly “detected a strong odor of alcohol” from the vehicle.

When an officer was collecting Lima’s keys, they allegedly saw marijuana in the center console of the vehicle, as well as a loaded gun with 10 rounds in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.

After a search, police allegedly seized a bag of suspected cocaine weighing 5.7 grams, a dispensary-labeled bag of marijuana weighing 6.9 grams, and a digital scale.
