CONWAY, N.H. (WLNE) – A New Bedford teacher and her husband were killed in a tragic accident in New Hampshire.

Rebecca Clark says she met Cathy Oliveira several years ago when she applied to foster labs at Save-A-Lab Rescue. Oliveira quickly became a devoted foster mom.

"She pretty quickly fell in love with her first foster dog who she named ‘Nala’. She just was one of those people who was very gregarious, very welcoming," says Clark.

Clark says Oliveira also incorporated her love for animals into her day job as a teacher for New Bedford Public Schools.

"She asked me years ago to start coming into the school system and talk to the kids about spaying and neutering, and the rescue world, and how to be responsible pet owners," she added.

The district sent ABC6 a statement about Oliveira’s passing, saying she worked there for more than 15 years as a fifth grade teacher at Winslow Elementary and most recently as a 6th grade teacher at Normandin Middle School.

"She was dedicated to the kids, the dogs, the rescue world,” Clark said.

According to Clark, Oliveira and her husband were parents to three children, who are now suffering the loss of both parents in one tragic accident.
