New Bedford woman rear ends police cruiser; charged with DUI

East Providence police arrest a 34 year old woman from New Bedford on charges of driving under the influence after rear ending a police cruiser.

The suspect is 34 year old Veronica Areiras.

According to police, at around 2:30 a.m., they were in the process of clearing the scene of another accident on I-195, when the suspect’s vehicle rear ended the Police cruiser, lifting the vehicle off the road.

The police officer was transported to Miriam hospital where he was treated and released.

Areias was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for her injuries.She is due to appear in court on January 7th.
