Work is underway to connect two Rhode Island bike paths. The Blackstone River Bikeway at Gano Street in Providence is undergoing renovations ultimately linking it to the East Bay Bike Path.

"We are committed to building a good, solid bicycle network in the State of Rhode Island," said RIDOT Director Peter Alviti Jr. "This project helps bring the Blackstone River Bikeway further into the City of Providence, connecting to the East Bay Path and other bicycle facilities within the City’s growing network."

Through the $2.5 million project, RIDOT will be paving, adding railings and some landscaping.

The new 7/10 of a mile section will follow the scenic water front while keeping bikers safely off city streets.

The project is part of Governor Gina Raimondo’s Rhode Works program. It should be ready for bikers by summer of 2017.
