Sailing away to Block Island isn’t the only way to get there anymore. Thursday morning Cape Air flew it’s inaugural flight to the island.
For the first time the eight-passenger plane made the trip to Block Island’s 2,500ft runway. The flight takes just about 35 minutes. Andrew Bonney is the Senior VP of Planning for Cape Air. He explains, “we’ve got flights perfectly timed for when people want to go, so on Fridays and Sundays we really increase the frequency.”
Cape Air has been providing service from TF Green to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard for 17 years. The plan is for this new route to continue for a very long time. Bonney goes on, “it’s very difficult and time consuming to start up new service we do this really looking at the at the long term prospects for the market.”
The seasonal flight will run through mid-October with tickets starting around $52.
