New Shoreham police chief resigns

NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The top cop on Block Island will resign next month.
Chief John Lynch told ABC 6 News Thursday that he decided to step down from his role for “personal reasons.”
Lynch took over as chief this year after a chaotic 2022 summer on the island — with brawls and unruly behavior frustrating residents and police.
Four months into the job, Lynch added more officers to the department and put up more signs throughout the island. Bars, like Ballard’s, increased security and identification procedures.
Lynch told ABC 6 in July that while there’s still a lot of work to be done on Block Island, “we are getting there.”
His last day is set for Oct. 2.
