New shower, restroom facilities coming to Burlingame State Campground

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said the construction of six new showers and restroom facilities are set to begin Oct. 1st at Burlingame State Campground.
The first phase, expected to be completed by spring 2026, will remove the existing outdated facilities and replace them with new structures in the Midpark North, Mills Camp, and Fish Camp areas.
RIDEM said the new facilities will be modern, American Disabilities Act-compliant and gender-neutral.
The facilities will feature an Onsite Wastewater Treatment System, energy efficient lighting, and water-conserving plumbing fixtures.
The existing restroom and shower facilities will close starting Oct. 1, and the RIDEM encouraged campers to use the facilities at different campground areas.
The second phase, involving the Main, Midpark South, and Legiontown areas is expected to begin October 2025 and conclude by April 2027.
The $18 million project was funded predominately through the voter-approved 2021 Beach, Clean Water, and Green Economy Bond, as well as a $2 million federal grant.
RIDEM said campers who do not wish to keep their reservations or want to change the dates of their trip to contact Reserve America by logging into the website or calling 1-877-742-2675.
