New traffic camera at Newport intersection to issue tickets for speed and red-light violations
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said the city is implementing a traffic camera enforcement program to issue tickets for speed and red-light violations.
The cameras will be placed at the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Admiral Kalbfus Road starting July 24 to “enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations in the area,” according to Newport police.
According to police, there will be a $50 fine for speed violations and a $100 fine for red-light violations.
To help drivers adjust to the new enforcement measures, the Newport Police Department said there will be a 30-day warning period for drivers.
