New video, eyewitness accounts give more insight into ICE arrest in Warren

WARREN, R.I. (WLNE) — ICE agents swarmed a car in Warren Tuesday, leaving some community members shaken, calling the arrest “un-American.”

Warren resident Corinne Kelly was out driving with her partner when she saw it happen.

“We stopped at a stop sign and then saw another car across from us stopped,” she said. “And then about half a dozen vehicles came up and swarmed him.”

Kelly said she immediately pulled out her phone and started taking a video, which can be viewed in the story above.

“The ICE officers took him out of his car and pushed him down,” Kelly said. “And put him in another car and drove away.”

Witnesses told ABC6 they first saw agents outside of Blount Fine Foods, following a car as it pulled out onto Water Street.

The arrest happened as the car came to a stop with a flat tire about a quarter mile up the road, right outside The Revival Craft Kitchen and Bar.

“It was really upsetting,” Kelly said. “Really, really upsetting to see that that happened in our small town.”

Many others felt the same way, as evidenced by a protest that formed outside of Blount, including resident Sydney Yared.

“I don’t like the idea of having secret police in my neighborhood,” Yared said. “I don’t like the idea of masked men taking people out of my community.”

Republican Town Committeeman Richard Matton said he was glad to see the arrest, noting his wife is a Polish immigrant who entered the country legally.

“ICE is doing nothing wrong,” Matton said. “They’re simply enforcing the laws that are on the books, and that’s the way it should be.”

Blount said the company did not have any communication with ICE and said agents never entered the building.

ABC6 has reached out to ICE for comment.
