Newly-installed Newport intersection speed camera to begin issuing citations
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department is reminding drivers to keep an eye on their speedometers as the new school year begins Wednesday.
According to Newport Police Department Lieutenant Joseph Carroll, an automated red light camera and speed camera were recently installed at the intersection of Admiral Kalbfus Road and Hillside Avenue.
The red light camera is active 24 hours a day and the speed camera will be active and issuing citations during school hours starting Wednesday.
According to Lieutenant Carroll, the camera was installed earlier this summer, and red light violation warnings were issued starting July 24.
Citations for red light violations began on August 24.
The Admiral Kalbfus Road speed limit is 25 miles per hour.
