Newport man accused of stabbing 36-year-old

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Police said Wednesday that a man was stabbed over the weekend in Newport.

The stabbing happened at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Farewell Street and Broadway.

Police said the 36-year-old man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Lt. Joseph Carroll said the suspect, Anthony Moore, 54, fled to Narragansett.

Moore, of Newport, was later arrested and charged with felony assault and disorderly conduct.

The 54-year-old is scheduled to be arraigned in Newport District Court Wednesday.
