Newport man arrested for alleged possession of child sexual abuse material

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said that it made an arrest as part of an investigation with the Department of Homeland Security into an individual believed to have obtained child sexual abuse material over the internet.

23-year-old Ryan McElwee was charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

McElwee was arrested as part of a search warrant into a residence on Dec. 5.

He was arraigned and released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
