Newport man charged with illegal reentry, failing to register as sex offender

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said that a Guatemalan nation who was deported in 2014 after a conviction of second degree sexual assault was charged with illegally re-entering the United States after deportation and failing to register as a sex offender.

34-year-old Nelson Yocute is accused of illegally returning to the U.S. after his 2014 conviction and failing to register as a sex offender while living in the country.

Yocute allegedly lived and worked in Newport for nine years after his illegal reentry. He was ordered detained in federal custody after his court date on May 14.
