Newport police arrest suspect with machete, gun, drugs, after call reporting video voyeurism

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department announced a man is facing drug and illegal gun charges after he was arrested on Thanksgiving.

According to Newport Police Chief Ryan Duffy, officers took a report of a video voyeurism and possession of child pornography complaint on Nov. 23.

Detectives investigating the complaint later identified the location of the suspect, who’s name was not immediately released, as being in Newport. Officers said they also believed the suspect was armed with a semi-automatic pistol.

Police later conducted a traffic stop on the suspect in their car and were able to safely detain them. They were found to be in possession of a large quantity of controlled substances, a machete, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and large-capacity magazines.

The suspect is currently facing several felony charges.
