Newport Police identify suspect in apartment complex shooting

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Newport Police have identified a suspect in a shooting at an apartment complex Tuesday evening.

Police responded to the Festival Field apartment complex at 90 Girard Avenue around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday for reports of an individual who had been shot in the upper torso.

An investigation by Newport Police identified the shooter as Calvin Febles, 21, of Middletown.

Febles is currently wanted for using a firearm while committing a crime of violence, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and additional charges.

Newport Police said the victim is currently in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said Febles and the victim were familiar with one another and that the shooting took place following an argument, after which Febles fled the area.
