Newport Rhode Race plogging now open for sign up

ERICD Invites the Community to Protect The Watershed By Picking Up Trash After Newport Rhode Race this Earth Month. (Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District)

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) is extending their invitation to the public in a trash cleanup following the Newport Rhode Race.

ERICD shared that they will be “plogging” the marathon course on April 13, following the conclusion of the event.

The deadline to sign up is April 8.

Three sign up slots will be available:

  • 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.
  • 12:30 P.M. – 2:00 P.M.
  • 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Participants may either walk or jog a 1-4 mile segment of the race route and pick up trash.

ERICD will provide trash bags, gloves, trash picker-uppers, and scales to weigh your trash at the end of the day.

The first 50 participants will receive a complimentary high-vis shirt, a coupon to Greenvale, and snacks.

Details on starting locations and route assignments will be shared prior to race day.
