Newport School Committee calls special meeting in response to alleged student assault
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport School Committee will convene for a special meeting Wednesday after two Newport high school students were charged for alleged assault of a student with disabilities.
The William S. Rogers High School student athletes are accused of assaulting a student with disabilities after Newport police viewed cell phones videos showing the alleged incident.
The incident allegedly occurred in a locker room.
One student was arrested Friday and arraigned on two charges of assault and the other was charged Saturday.
Both students are 16-years-old.
