A Newport teen has been charged with assault and is accused of using racial slurs against a police officer.
Police say the 15-year-old girl attacked the African American officer verbally, spit on her and threw a rock at her.
This happened Sunday while police were trying to arrest for allegedly attacking a group home worker earlier that day.
Police say during the attack the girl struck the worker in the head five times with a stick.
She was reported missing after the attack and was later found behind a Walmart at RK Newport Towne Center.
The teen will now head to family court. Her charges include assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, vandalism, and resisting arrest.
