Newt Gingrich’s Wife Stops In Rhode Island

With just one week before the Rhode Island presidential primary, The Ocean State is starting to see more of the candidates. There are a total of five primaries next Tuesday and the candidates can't be everywhere. So some are sending in their spouses.
Callista Gingrich, wife of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, is spending three days in Rhode Island campaigning for her husband ahead of next week's primary. She spent the afternoon reading to children at the YMCA in Middletown.
Mrs. Gingrich declined to do an on camera interview with ABC6, but off-camera, she told Reporter Mark Curtis that her husband is encouraged by Rick Santorum dropping out of the race, and that it may mean more conservative votes for Newt Gingrich.
With Mrs. Gingrich campaigning in more moderate states such as Rhode Island, her husband is stumping in conservative strongholds of Texas and North Carolina. Our Chief Political Analyst calls it too little, too late.
“It is mathematically impossible for Ron Paul or Newt Gingrich to win this race,” said former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci. “But the Gingirch campaign marches on.”
