9Days of Dates: Heat things up at the Blackstone River Glass Center
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — You may think that your Valentine is pretty hot, but I can guarantee you that this date is even hotter.
Welcome to the Blackstone River Glass Center, 20,000 square feet of space dedicated to the art of glass-work right here in Cumberland.
“We have the three different studios now. The glass-blowing studio, the flame working studio and the fusing studio,” said owner Rebecca Zhukov.
And, if you and your date decide that you want to tap into your creative sides, or are looking to just try something different, you might just find yourselves in one of those studios for Valentine’s Day.
“They’re all trying something they haven’t done before,” said Zhukov.
That’s how I ended up getting a flame-working lesson from Jesse Yager, the Glass Center’s flameshop coordinator.
And don’t worry, for those of you wondering if you are concerned that your masterpiece won’t be so masterful, or that you’ll accidentally light something on fire, just remember that you’ll be working with professionals, and they’ll help you out along the way.
“They’ll learn how to blow the glass and they do actually have a lot of hands on blowing the glass. But we always have our hands somewhat over your hands just to make sure everybody’s safe,” said Zhukov.
