PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The man accused of fatally stabbing the brother of a Rhode Island Supreme Court justice has been ordered held without bail.
21-year-old Matthew Marcotte appeared Tuesday in Rhode Island District Court. He is charged with murder.
Police say Marcotte stabbed 53-year-old William McKenna outside a convenience store in Pawtucket on Feb. 10. McKenna was the younger brother of Supreme Court Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg.
McKenna’s funeral was held as Marcotte was arraigned.
A motive hasn’t been disclosed. McKenna and Marcotte had served time in different prisons. Marcotte has Crips gang tattoos.
Marcotte was arrested in Massachusetts Thursday. He’s charged there with being a fugitive from justice and weapons violations.
Marcotte was referred to the public defender’s office but it’s unclear whether an attorney has been assigned.
