No verdict yet in Tsarnaev trial

There is still no verdict reached in the case of the Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The case went to the jury first thing Tuesday morning.
The jury stopped deliberating around 4:30 p.m. and had the case for a little more than seven hours.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is facing 30 federal charges—17 of those charges carry the death penalty. If Tsarnaev is convicted of any of those 17, this trial will move onto the sentencing phase, where jurors will decide whether or not he should be put to death.
In order to come to a verdict the jury must complete a 30-page form on those charges, and many of the counts have different parts. The jury has several items in which they must choose whether the 21-year-old is guilty or not guilty.
The first phase of the trial lasted about a month. In that time, the jury heard gruesome details about those injured and killed in the 2013 Marathon bombings and the attacks in the days that followed—much of which was rehashed Monday during closing statements.
The defense has said all along that they do not dispute Tsarnaev’s involvement in those events, but it is his motive that they are contesting.
The jury will be back in Boston Wednesday morning and those deliberations will continue.
