North Attleborough woman sentenced for assaulting girlfriend

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Thursday that a North Attleborough woman was sentenced after brutally injuring her girlfriend at the time.
Quinn said 47-year-old Tanisha Baxter was sentenced to serve three-and-a-half to five-and-a-half years in prison, to be followed by two years of supervised probation.
Baxter pled guilty two weeks ago to charges of mayhem and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Back on Jan 31. just before 4 a.m., police responded to a disturbance at an apartment. Quinn said Baxter kicked in and broke a neighbors door, where her girlfriend at the time was seeking help from a previous assault. Hours before the door being kicked in, Baxter brutally beat her girlfriend.
The girlfriend was taken to the hospital. Police said she had two black eyes, bruises and cuts all over. Baxter “struck the victim with a dresser drawer and free weights, and also slashed her with a knife,” said Quinn.
“This was a violent assault against the victim, who sustained serious injuries,” District Attorney Quinn said. “This defendant has a criminal history and needs to be kept off the street to protect the public.”
