North Attleborough fire department hosts open house promoting cooking safety

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Dozens were in attendance at the North Attleborough Fire Department’s open house Monday evening.
The open house was held as the department continued supporting this year’s national Fire Safety Week campaign; “Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
During the event, families were able to meet the firefighters of their community as well as get up close and personal with fire trucks and equipment.
Attendees of all ages were in attendance, collecting coloring materials, battling a fake house fire with hoses, and taking tours around the station.
Those in attendance were also able to learn about safely navigating a smoke-filled room in the department’s fire safety house.

The North Attleborough Fire Department further offered the following safety tips for the public:
- Watch what you heat. Always keep a close eye on what you are cooking. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking
- Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner
- Have a “kid- and pet-free zone” of at least three feet around the stove or grill and anywhere else hot food or drink is prepared or carried
