North Attleborough opens emergency shelter for residents impacted by flash flooding
NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The city of North Attleborough shared on social media that an emergency shelter has opened to residents impacted by Monday night’s flash flooding.
According to the city, anyone in need of services due to flooding, loss of power or sewage backup should go directly to the North Attleborough Middle School Gymnasium located at 564 Landry Ave.
Anyone who requires transportation to the shelter should call 508-699-6323 and the town will dispatch a car to you.
ABC 6 News crews are in North Attleborough on Paine Road where flash flooding trapped dozens of residents and commuters.
Flooding was so intense in some areas that roads were made completely impassable. North Attleborough Police are advising travelers that Hoppin Hill Avenue is now among those impassable streets.
Fire crews could be seen clearing a small sedan and an abandoned UPS box truck from the roadway, both bearing heavy water damage.
Firefighters told ABC 6 that Rhode Island Energy will be on the scene shortly to cut power to the neighborhood to prevent further incidents.
