North Kingstown School Committee meets to discuss ongoing investigations

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE)- The North Kingstown School Committee read aloud and shared a statement Wednesday evening that updated the public of their ongoing investigation into former basketball coach Aaron Thomas.
In their statement, they outline phase 1 of the investigation performed by attorney Matthew Oliverio into the allegations of “fat checks” on student athletes. Phase 1 was submitted in June, and its findings sparked a Phase 2– looking into administrative knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing. Phase 2 is ongoing and is expected to be released in January, according to the committee.
“Let’s recognize, let’s not play hide the ball, let’s not play shell games, let’s just get the cards on the table and talk about what shouldn’t have happened and what need to change,” said Tim Conlon, an attorney representing some of the former athletes. He continued, “That is right where my clients want to be.”
At the meeting, Chairman Gregory Blasbalg read the statement released earlier in the day to the crowd at the North Kingstown High School auditorium.
