North Kingstown teacher put on leave after ‘inappropriate’ letters

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A North Kingstown teacher was put on administrative leave, but will not be returning to Wickford Middle School after an investigation discovered possible inappropriate letters to students.
In a letter students and parents, North Kingstown Superintendent Kenneth Duva shared that the reason for the investigation was the rest of the employee writing these letters with a tone and language that was not acceptable between a staff member and a student.
“As soon as these letters were brought to the attention of school and district administration the employee was placed on administrative leave and the appropriate state agencies were notified,” Duva shared.
Duva said that they were requesting all families to talk to their children about appropriate interactions between students and staff.
If through these discussions any information becomes available, it should be reported to the North Kingstown Administration, the letter stated.
He also included resources for appropriate boundaries for kids with adults, and what should be considered when it comes to mandated reporting.
