North Providence woman sentenced to over 8 years for fentanyl trafficking

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said that a North Providence woman with previous drug convictions was sentenced for trafficking fentanyl.

55-year-old Lisa Torres pled guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.

She was sentenced to serve 102 months of incarceration to be followed by three years of federal supervised release.

Torres was arrested in December 2022 when she was delivering fentanyl to a person.

Cunha said that investigators found that she was trafficking large quantities of drugs, had pictures of drugs on her cellphone, and had ties to the Dominican Republic and elsewhere.

Torres was convicted in 1993 in Rhode Island state court and in 1994 in U.S. District Court on drug trafficking charges; in 2007 in U.S. District Court on charges of obstruction of justice, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and making false statements; and in 2009 in U.S District Court on a charge of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
