North Smithfield police searching for man accused of cocaine, fentanyl possession

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Smithfield Police Department said it is searching for a Lincoln man accused of drug possession.
41-year-old Matthew Daignault is accused of obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to deliver a schedule I/II controlled substance.
Daignault was involved in a traffic stop on Dec. 12 in which he and a passenger were allegedly interrupted while using narcotics.
When backup arrived on the scene, Daignault allegedly took a brown leather case from his pants, threw it, and began running.
The department said that Daignault ran into a heavily wooded area and, despite being followed by several officers and K-9 units, was unable to be located.
The case allegedly contained over 21 grams of suspected crack cocaine, as well nine grams of suspected cocaine.
The department said that an arrest warrant was issued for Daignault and he has not yet been detained.
