North Smithfield students travel to Washington

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Students from North Smithfield traveled to Washington, D.C. to represent Rhode Island in the National Finals for We the People.

We the People helps promotes a student’s understanding of the institutions of American democracy and the contemporary relevance of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The event was held at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Virginia and lasted from April 12 to 16. During their time in Washington, students participated in simulated congressional hearings before panels of judges, went sightseeing, and experienced government firsthand.

Students also had a chance to tour the White House and met with Congressman Gabe Amo.
